MEMORANDUM FOR WEST PIKELAND RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS OWNERS
FROM: WEST PIKELAND TOWNSHIP 250 TASKFORCE
SUBJECT: UNITED STATES 250th ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDANCE
1. As our Nation United States approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we are reminded of the enduring spirit of volunteerism that has shaped our nation.
2. Chester County has a rich Revolutionary history, and West Pikeland Township (WPT) also has its own unique role in early American resilience and determination. Within WPT is our Historic Yellow Springs (HYS), a site that served as the first military hospital during the Revolutionary War, symbolizes the commitment to care and innovation that volunteers have always brought to the forefront of national endeavors.
3. WPT Supervisors authorized the formation of a volunteer based 250 Taskforce who will be collaborating with HYS to create celebratory events to honor our great Nation, educate on WPT contributions to the Revolutionary War and build community spirit and pride for our township. These events will commence in 2025 and will continue through 2026 and beyond
4. On behalf of WPT Supervisors and HYS’s Board of Directors, our 250 Taskforce will be reaching out to local business owners and residents to solicit engagement and participation in this memorable celebration.
5. Finally, we are looking to gather some suggestions, comments, and information on celebrating this event as well as a call for volunteers. We’d love to hear from you! Your insights will help make a difference in finding meaningful ways our communities can contribute to this historic milestone. If interested, please send an email to tf250@westpikeland.com and someone from the taskforce will respond.
